ALBANY, N.Y. — A 26-year-old parolee has been sentenced to 37 years in state jail for raping a SUNY Albany pupil as she slept in her dorm room.
A jury convicted Franklin Casatelli of Guilderland of a couple of fees together with prison rape and second-degree housebreaking in December. He declined to talk at his sentencing on Monday in Albany County Courtroom.
Prosecutors say Casatelli broke into the 19-year-old lady’s room at Stuyvesant Tower in October 2016. He wasn’t a pupil. The girl informed police she aroused from sleep to Casatelli sexually assaulting her in her mattress.
Police say Casatelli unlawfully entered any other pupil’s room earlier than the attack.
Casatelli served time in state jail for a drug-related conviction and parole violations and have been paroled 10 days earlier than the rape.
